The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from current undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in museum programming and museum education. This is a paid internship within the Public History Division under the Education and Community Engagement Department that will work specifically with the K12 Programs and Early Childhood teams. These education teams create programming that promotes critical thinking and fosters empathy through inquiry and engaging with diverse stories. The intern will report to the K12 Programs manager and must be able to work in person.

The K12 Programs intern will assist in developing History Exploration Days programming for the Missouri Historical Society that is focused on National American Indian Heritage month. The intern will also help research tribal history and resources in the region.

Schedule

A minimum of 10 to 15 hours of work per week for the fall 2021 semester is required. The schedule is flexible based upon the intern's availability and will be determined with the supervisor.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to)

• Researching topics related to local tribes and Native American history digitally and in partnership with the Missouri Historical Society's Library & Research Center
• Planning and leading facilitation of participatory, inquiry-based activities for the new History Exploration Days programming in November that is focused on the theme of "Celebrating National American Indian Heritage Month"
• Assisting in building a collection of information and resources on Native American history in the St. Louis region for K12 educators
• Working cross-departmentally and with external collaborators to create programming for History Exploration Days
• Evaluating programs using surveys

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in college, with preferred (but not required) major in: education, history, museum studies, or Native American studies
• Must have an interest in museum programming and/or education, Native American studies, equity and inclusion in education
• Must have experience with Microsoft Office, strong interpersonal skills, and research skills
• Must have access to a computer and the internet
• Experience in creating educational programming, working with K12 students, working within or with tribal organizations, or creating museum programming is preferred
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to the changing educational environment

• To strengthen research skills by utilizing museum resources and other sources
