Summer 2020 Library Research Intern

The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from students interested in an unpaid library research internship in the Library and Collections Division at the Library & Research Center.

The Library Research intern will use the Library, Archives, and Photographs and Prints collection to assist with research relating to immigration history and immigrant communities in St. Louis. The intern will receive research training and work closely with the Library staff. The intern must be available to work 10 to 15 hours per week, between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, for a total of 150 hours. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor.

The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assisting with the research and development of a new K12 education program that examines multiple immigrant groups in St. Louis through time, using examples of specific immigrants and neighborhoods
  • Analyzing census data and statistics for St. Louis immigrant groups and summarizing them with charts and graphs, for inclusion in a guidebook to be published
  • Assisting with additional research for existing K12 education programs to improve the student experience
  • Assisting with additional research projects to be determined at the time of the internship

 

The ideal candidate will be a college junior or above who is majoring in education, history, American studies, or a similar field; has strong written and verbal communication skills; has prior experience researching immigration and/or immigrant communities, and has prior experience researching with and handling historic documents.
