Summer 2020 Teens Make History Internship

The Missouri Historical Society is seeking an enthusiastic, engaging individual who enjoys working with high school students for a for-credit internship with our national awardwinning Teens Make History program (learn more at mohistory.org/tmh). This part-time intern will assist with projects that help teens develop life skills and become career- and college-ready. 

 

The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Interacting with a diverse group of high school students and modeling professional skills
  • Developing and leading targeted team-building and skill-development activities
  • Assisting with planning and managing long-term projects in exhibits and museum theatre
  • Attending weekly professional development field trips and supporting TMH staff as needed
  • Additional projects that would meet the intern's professional interests and the needs of Teens Make History may be considered

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth ages 1418
  • Interest in history, education, theatre, museum studies, social work, or similar fields
  • Familiarity with experiential education is preferred

Schedule:

  • A minimum of 10 hours per week for 10 weeks (June 2August 8)
  • Must be available on Wednesdays to assist with field trips (usually 9am to 1pm, although hours may vary) and should be able to meet with teens for at least 5 additional hours per week during their regular work schedule: 9am5 pm, ThursdaySaturday
  • Additional time may be needed for planning and preparation (flexible hours)

Outcomes:

  • Intern will participate in weekly professional development sessions and field trips for MHS education and interpretation staff
  • Intern will learn about principles of creative youth development and discover how work-based learning programs for youth can be structured in the museum field
  • Intern will produce resources that TMH can continue to use with future teen apprentices

Compensation:

  • Academic credit
  • Tickets, transportation, and food for professional development field trips
