The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from college students who are interested in fundraising and seek an unpaid academic internship within the Development Department. UNPAID INTERNSHIPS MUST BE ACADEMIC IN NATURE AND THE INTERN MUST EARN ACADEMIC CREDIT BY PARTICIPATING IN THE INTERNSHIP.

This internship may be on a hybrid schedule to include both onsite and remote work as needed by both intern and supervisor.

This internship position reports to the Director of Membership and Annual Giving.

The Development Intern will assist in the implementation of the annual fund development plan, which includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition of membership.

Schedule

A minimum of 10 hours per week for 12 to 15 weeks is desired, with a flexible schedule between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor.

The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

• Assisting with data entry
• Preparing membership packets and other mailings
• Managing the Time Travelers program and website
• Assisting Prospect Managers with donor research
• Processing and fulfilling complimentary membership requests

• Working with development staff on member events and programs

Intern Qualifications:

• College Sophomore or above in good academic standing
• Interest in fundraising

• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills in interacting with staff, members, and donors
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information

Learning Objectives:

• Gain an understanding of CRM software and fundraising best practices
• Strengthen interpersonal communication skills with colleagues and volunteers in an office setting 
• Provide intern with on-the-job training and experience in the Development / Fundraising field
